Lexington is a twenty minute run for us — I-20 west out of the yard, off at US-378 and straight down Sunset Boulevard into town. It is the county seat, it has been one of the fastest-growing places in the state for twenty-five years, and the growth shows in the housing: a small historic core around Main Street, a big ring of 1980s and 90s subdivisions, and then subdivision after subdivision of 2000s and 2010s slab-on-grade construction pushing out along Corley Mill Road, Old Cherokee Road, Barr Road and toward Red Bank. Schools are the reason most of those families are here, and the school calendar shapes when the work gets done.

What that mix means for containers is two distinct jobs. The older stock — the ranches and the pier-and-crawlspace houses closer to town — is in full refresh: kitchens, baths, roofs, decks, popcorn ceilings, and the crawlspace work that Midlands humidity guarantees. Two things shape Lexington deliveries. The first is the covenants. Most of the newer subdivisions here are covenanted, and the association usually has something to say about where a container may sit, whether it may touch the street, whether it needs to be off the road entirely, and how many days it can stay. That day limit is the one that trips people up, because a remodel runs long and the box does not care. Get the current rule from your association in writing, tell us the window when you book, and we will schedule delivery and pickup inside it. Associations amend their documents, so ask rather than relying on what happened on the next street last summer. The second is the ground and the timing. Lexington straddles the transition from red clay to sandhill sand depending on which side of town you are on, and both misbehave under a loaded truck in their own way — clay ruts and holds water after a storm, sand gives way and lets a wheel drop. Protection boards are standard and we still walk the approach. Older drives near town are decades-old concrete or asphalt that has been through a lot of heat cycling, and a cracked apron at the street is worth pointing out before we set. Keep the yard waste separate as its own clean load — South Carolina does not allow grass, leaves, brush and limb wood into landfill disposal — and remember Lexington County runs its own permitting and solid waste system, separate from Richland across the river and separate again from the Town of Lexington. Permits, streets and placement in Lexington

On a private driveway in Lexington you generally do not need a municipal permit. Placement in the public street or right-of-way is a different matter and normally requires approval — from the city or county where the road is locally maintained, or from SCDOT where it is a state route.
